Polovtsian Dances - Alexander Borodin

The Dubuque Senior Orchestra closed their section of the concert with one of Alexander Borodin's most well-known pieces, Polovtsian Dances. This is from his opera "Prince Igor" which is a Russian opera about the Asian roots in Russian history. Borodin was always interested in the oriental sound, as seen in In the Steppes of Central Asia, so when he was asked to write this opera, his was ecstatic.
This song in particular depicts several different dances to the Russian khan. In the first couple dances they're are maidens dancing, but by the third dance it all the warriors dancing in praise to the khan.
